The Kill A Watt is a very useful tool for determining electrical usage. I created a simple spreadsheet to help me determine the cost of running various appliances in my home, and I was quite surprised with the results.
The device, overall, is very simple to use. A brief read-through of the short manual takes approximately 5-10 minutes, and then you're ready to go: plug it into the wall, plug in your appliance, and reset the accumulated time. Then it's only a matter of navigating the simple to use menus.
The largest drawback I found with this device is that it's too wide. On a normal upper/lower wall outlet this would not be a problem, but if you are trying to use it on a plug strip to analyze one item on that plugstrip, it will take up the space necessary for two or three outlets. Obviously, there are easy ways around this, but the bulkiness of the device is too much given the simple tasks it performs.
While the functionality of the Kill A Watt works quite well, I am a stickler for data, and this device didn't provide exactly the data I desired, nor expected. The most useful data obtained, in my opinion, was via the cost/time feature, which tells you how much an appliance costs to run per year, month, week, or day; the device has an input for your electricity rate, at $/kwh. It does not, however, tell you the average energy usage in general. It does show the time used to calculate the cost over time, and I know it is only a matter of a simple calculation to determine on my own, but I still believe having kwh/time would be handy to have at a glance.
Another minor drawback is the input for your electricity rate. My electric company breaks down my electricity rate to a precision of one ten thousandth of a cent ($ 0.000001), but the rate input only allows to the tenth of a cent($0.001). I know many people don't need or want precision of this intensity, but again, I am a stickler for data.
Overall, these few minor drawbacks, in relation to the price I paid (via Amazon), caused me to drop the rating to four stars as opposed to five. It is definitely a good product, and I'm sure it will pay for itself in the long run. It is not, however perfect.

I purchased and used the ez watt until it burned out in about three months. I tried to contact the company with no luck. I may have had a lemon. But in the end, I lost more money than I saved. I threw it out. I'm glad to see that others have had a better experience.

Price isn't bad. Actually saw it on sale at another site but I'm not complaining. That's my own fault.
Does what it's supposed to do and does it well. No problem at all with it.
One thing though is that the socket on it is a bit tight. Plugging things in and removing them can take a bit of work.
That's the my only gripe but not enough to warrant losing any stars.
Definitely a handy tool to have in order to determine how much electricity things cost to use and to see how much juice things suck up in standby mode when they're not actually in use.
